Job Overview:
Wildfire Water Solutions is seeking a dedicated Wildland Firefighting Operator to join our team.
As an Operator, you'll work with a team delivering water solutions and fire suppression efforts. You'll operate, maintain, and repair equipment, while ensuring safety protocols are followed in high-risk environments. This position requires strong mechanical skills, physical fitness, the ability to thrive in high-pressure environments and those who are excited about the rewarding adventure that comes with wildland firefighting.
What You’ll Do:
- Gain valuable hands-on experience in high-stakes fire suppression operations.
- Operate, maintain and repair water delivery equipment designed for wildfire control, including transfer pumps, lay flat hoses, and other heavy machinery.
- Operate pickup trucks with or without trailers to transport equipment and personnel.
- Mobilization and demobilization of equipment.
- Work in collaboration with other wildland firefighters to execute fire suppression strategies and water delivery methods in active wildfire zones.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including necessary PPE, and emergency response procedures to protect both yourself and your team in high-risk environments.
- Maintain clear communication with team members and management to ensure a smooth and coordinated firefighting effort using signals, radios, and telephones.
- Use common hand and power tools, such as hammers, shovels, Pulaski’s, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
Compensation:
- $26 - $45 per hour, based on experience.

Preferred but not required Experience:
- Wildland firefighting or water delivery experience.
- Heavy machinery operation.
- Class A CDL with or without airbrakes.
- Equipment and engine mechanic knowledge.
Physical Requirements:
- Must achieve an arduous rating on the Pack Test (WCFT) which requires you to walk 3 miles with a 45-pound backpack in under 45 minutes.
- Ability to work in extreme conditions, including high heat, high-stress, and hazardous environments.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing 50-100+ pounds in difficult terrain and all-weather conditions.

- Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment during hazardous fire-suppression activities.
- Ability to listen, understand, and respond quickly to directions.
- Works well with others, particularly in highly stressful and hazardous situations.
- A commitment to safety and a passion for serving the community.
- Physical fitness and stamina to meet the demands of active wildfire environments.
- Valid driver’s license (Class A or B preferred).
- Must be available for quick dispatch (within 2 hours) and long-term travel.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance.
- Successfully complete training including but not limited to wildland fire certifications, safety, DOT, and MSPA (additional wildland fire training is required and will be provided).
- Will be subject to mandatory drug screenings.

Working Conditions:
- High-risk environment with exposure to extreme conditions (poison oak, bees, snakes, rough terrain, noise, heat, dust, smoke, burning and/or falling materials heat, etc.).
- The hazardous nature of the work requires that personal protective equipment be worn (boots, hardhat, gloves, flame resistant clothing, etc.).
- Extensive travel and long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical demands include lifting, climbing, and carrying heavy objects (50-100 lbs.).
- Extended deployments with camping accommodations at fire camps.
