Purpose and Scope of Position

The Seasonal Operations Field Services Technician (FST) is a seasonal, entry-level support position shared within the Field Services Division Departments at Wildfire Defense Systems. The Seasonal Operations Field Services Technician is responsible for engine scheduling, arranging travel, wildfire monitoring, and providing quality assurance for WDS firefighting response teams.

Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Shift Lead within the Field Services Administration, Current Operations, and Operational Readiness Departments of the Field Services Division.

Duties and Responsibilities

Information & Intelligence

  • Locate, identify, and monitor wildfires across the US utilizing a variety of online resources
  • Create and maintain daily logs of fire activity
  • Create, update, and manipulate wildfire perimeters using geospatial tools such as Google Earth, social media, and satellite imagery
  • Carefully craft client-facing and internal reports and analyses
  • Continuously document field operations and actions taken on a property including managing property photos, engine movement, and property information
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency in departmental function

Operations Support

  • Create and maintain the resource schedule of 100+ vehicles
  • Work daily with field personnel to ensure accurate population of the daily status spreadsheet
  • Own the process of field employee travel to and from incidents and duty stations
  • Review field deliverables for accuracy and make necessary corrections
  • Assist with confirming field personnel work assignments to ensure proper accountability for billing purposes
  • Monitor and provide support for daily field support coverage as assigned by Shift Leads
  • Assist with personal protective equipment procurement
  • Procurement and distribution of administrative tools for Operations (business cards, name tags, door hangers etc.)
  • Attend daily Current Operations and Resource briefings and providing briefings status of staff hours and updates
  • Other duties as assigned

Response Assurance

  • Review field expenses made on incidents for proper documentation and stewardship
  • Provide quality control of property reports
  • Communicate daily with field leadership

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (i.e., education, certifications, years of experience, etc.)

  • Proven software competency, i.e., MS Office Suite, Google Earth, resource management software platforms, and social media
  • 1 year of customer service experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Completion of an undergraduate program or equivalent experience (B.A. or B.S.)
  • 1 year of wildfire or emergency management experience
  • 1 year of logistics experience

  • Strong analytical skills to synthesize data inputs into a clear output for wildfire intelligence
  • Ability to remain composed under stress while providing excellent customer service to stakeholders
  • Clear, concise, and straightforward technical writing ability
  • Collaborative focus with ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Positive, constructive, and supportive attitude towards customers, employees, and the company.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, hourly position with varying shifts. Shifts will include nights and weekends (Saturdays, Sundays, and some holidays) on a rotation basis. Operating hours vary by season, ranging from 7:00am to 10:00pm MST. Occasional overtime may be needed to meet changing fire conditions, deadlines, client contracts or any other operational requirements.
