General Definition of Work

The Fire Marshal is directly responsible for controlling, coordinating, and supervising the Fire Prevention Division. Promote public safety through implementing and enforcing of laws, codes, and ordinances related to fire and life safety, plan review and inspection of new construction, fire inspection, public education, fire investigation services, and emergency preparedness, all to reduce community risk. Provides direct supervision of professional-level staff such as inspectors, public education specialists, fire investigators, etc., and indirect supervision of clerical and other technical positions or contracted employees. Exercises discretion and independent judgment concerning assigned duties. Work is under the general guidance and direction of the Fire Chief or designee.
