The Cosumnes Community Services District (“District”) is looking for a highly motivated, qualified individual to join our team as a full-time Permit Technician in the Fire Department.

Position Description

Under direct or general supervision, the Permit Technician performs a variety of technical support duties related to the processing and issuance of permits for the Fire Department; performs a preliminary review of plans and specifications for plan check submittal; provides customer service by phone, email, and at the public counter; reviews and processes applications, issues permits, and calculates and collects fees; and performs related duties, as assigned. Performs a variety of complex clerical and technical work and customer care services for the Fire Department.

Class Characteristics

This Permit Technician performs a range of administrative support functions as well as technical areas related to the issuance of a variety of District permits. This class is distinguished by requiring the use of advanced administrative and basic technical skills relative to building permits; regularly interacting with and providing building requirement information and fee estimates to the public, architects, developers, contractors, and engineers. Work is characterized by extensive use of a permit tracking software system in order to calculate building fees, track and issue permits, and archive plans.

Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives supervision as assigned in the department organizational chart. This position does not exercise any lead or supervisory responsibilities.

Salary Information
The salary range for the Permit Technician classification is between $26.84 – $37.77 per hour. The District typically appoints new employees at step 1 of the salary range. Consideration for an appointment higher than step 1 will be based on experience, education, or the need for unique skills or knowledge and shall be no more than the mid-point of the salary range.
