Under general supervision, responds to emergency scenes and performs firefighting and/or advanced life support emergency medical assistance duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED
• Washington drivers license by hire date
• Minimum of 12 months consecutive full-time, career structural firefighter work experience
• Have IFSAC or Pro Board Hazmat Operations Certification (preferred)
• Have IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I Certification
• IFSAC Firefighter II (preferred)
• Have National Registry or Washington State Paramedic Certification
New hire lateral firefighters will attend a four-week academy.

Timeline for Lateral Process:
– Pull list from Workday March 2
– Interview invites sent March 2 – 3
– Oral Board/Medical Skills Assessment March 10-11– no remote interviews offered
– Chief’s Interview March 12 – 13 – no remote interviews offered
– CPAT Deadline March 18
– Conditional Offers March 18
– Pre-Employment Process – Backgrounds, Medical & Psych – March – April
– Final Offers Early to Mid April
– Start May 2026

Other Details:
a. Signing bonus $7,500 at hire and $7,500 after completing one year probation.
b. Starting pay will be at step 3 of the compensation grade. $119,231.
C. Top step pay after first year: $135,924 in 2026, annual COLA per L468 CBA.
