Who you are
You are a motivated and pragmatic engineer with senior level experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Backend API and infrastructure (Python/Django/AWS)
- Client Side development (React/Capacitor PWA)
- GIS (geo-spatial data pipelines using Dagster)
We value a “get it done” and “follow through” mentality from our engineering volunteers. This is a remote volunteering position.
Requirements
5+ years of software engineering experience
10 hours per month to this project commitment
What we’ll create
We need help expanding our technology platform to better serve the public. We build whatever it takes to help citizens be safe in the face of natural disasters. So far this has meant building native apps and a website to provide a simple and accurate way to receive relevant information on fires near you, extensive automation and scraping tools for our reporters to empower their work, sending out 100M push notifications to affected citizens in the last year and serving over 1B requests, and we are currently compiling the only centralized and free repository of evacuation zones.
We communicate on Slack, and use Trello, Figma, Github and CI/CD for development workflows. All feature development will be peer-reviewed and product tested before merge.
