Agency Internal | Full-time | Permanent
Monday - Friday | 10pm - 6:30AM
**This position will earn an additional $2.50/hour shift differential pay
on top of the hourly rate.**

About the Division
The Business Resources Division (BRD) within
DES provides a number of services to state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Services provided by the division include Consolidated Mail Services, Fleet Operations, Management Staff, Printing & Imaging, and Surplus Operations. DES provides centralized leadership in efficiently and cost-effectively managing resources necessary to support the delivery of state government services. About this Opportunity
The Color Digital Press Operator is responsible for producing printed materials for various state agencies that sends time-sensitive and confidential documents and correspondence such as warrants, checks, medical claims/benefits, business licenses, and other important documents to their clients. The production of these documents is guided by the State Legislature and Federal laws.
This role oversees maintaining the program’s cost-recovery model, customer satisfaction, and the essential service it provides to Washington State citizens. This position performs production printing utilizing both Digital Color and B/W roll-fed printers, as well as performing preventative maintenance on these devices using pre-determined methods to support the agency’s Digital Print Production environment. The incumbent is expected to apply recording, diagnosing, and troubleshooting skills to low and medium risks problems that arise in the delivery of services to customers.

DES' Print and Mail Program provides centralized leadership in efficiency and cost-effective print services to our customers, thereby allowing agencies to focus their efforts on achieving their core mission and goals.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing
Produce critical and sensitive documents (i.e. warrants, checks, medical benefit document, injured-workers claims, licenses - etc.) for multiple state agencies

  • Set up and operate Color Digital and B/W printing equipment as well as Pre and Post processing devices to print critical and time-sensitive documents and materials for customers
  • Receive, modify, set up, configure print files and produce high-quality output using the high-speed digital color and b/w presses
  • Perform routine maintenance such as running printer diagnostics and tests, setting up/configuring for different types of documents, adding toner and ink, and replacing consumables and parts
  • Maintain pre and post processing devices such as unwinder, dynamic perforator, slit/merger, cutter, booklet maker, and stacker as well as extraction vacuum for paper trims
  • Interpreting job tickets, ensuring job specifications are met
  • Include image enhancement, adding union and/or recycle bugs, screening, pagination, image merge and deletion
  • Follow all safety requirements and guidelines in the operation of Color and B/W roll fed digital printing equipment
Preparing and processing of jobs from start to finish on the Color or B/W Digital Equipment
  • Locating paper stock and other printing supplies in the preparation of jobs
  • Loading paper as needed for jobs
  • Operate and maintain the clamp truck, pallet jack, and forklift to move materials
    • Inspect lift equipment pre and post shift to ensure it is safe to use and to document potential maintenance issues. Document inspections
    • Immediately report unsafe equipment, unsafe operation and accidents to the supervisor or other appropriate entity
  • Prepare printed jobs for pickup and distribution
    • Palletize boxes and shrink wrap using handheld shrink wrapper
    • Stage pallets/GPCs in the print room for Mail pick-up
    • Take pallets to Shipping and Receiving area as needed
  • Clean up work area
    • Replace recycle bins when full
    • Load recycle bins into truck using forklift
    • Make and re-stock boxes

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Ways to meet the qualifications for:
[OPTION 1]
  • Three (3) years of experience operating high-speed production equipment
[OPTION 2]
  • One (1) year experience operating continuous-feed digital printing equipment, unwinders, folders, slit/mergers and cutter/trimmer/stacker system

**Experience may be gained concurrently. **


Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity in production printing environment using queue management system/tools/applications such as Solimar/SPDE and PrismaPro
  • Knowledge in the use of Management Information Systems such as Monarch
  • Knowledge in the use of mainframe terminals
  • Experience in QWS3270, TSO, EOM, and CA7
  • Knowledge of MS Office suites of products

Supplemental Information

Special Requirements

  • Must pass a Washington State Patrol (WSP) criminal background check
  • Must obtain and maintain certification for forklift, electric pallet jack, and clamp truck within the first six months of hire. (Training and certification provided on-site.)
