Overview
Maintain and repair equipment, machinery, appliances, utilities, buildings, facilities, fixtures, and systems, at the Bastian Agricultural Center, in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. The scope of duties may be highly diversified depending upon the needs of the department in which the incumbent works.
Incumbents in the Maintenance Technician series maintain and repair equipment, machinery, appliances, utilities, buildings, facilities, fixtures, and systems, in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. The scope of duties may be highly diversified depending upon the needs of the department in which the incumbent works.
Responsibilities
- Assists with corrective and preventive building maintenance, including basic plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and electrical.
- Conducts field checks of buildings to identify and analyze corrective and preventive maintenance modifications.
- Maintains and repairs recreation equipment such as weights, pools, treadmills, and ellipticals.
- Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
- May make repairs and monitor safety equipment such as the fire “Exit” signs and general repair of emergency doors. May perform periodic checks of fire & smoke alarms.
- Maintains adequate inventory of custodial equipment, chemicals, paper products, and supplies.
- Inspects and performs routine preventive maintenance on all custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums, burnishers, etc.
- Performs snow removal as assigned.
- Complies with department, State, and Federal safety and compliance regulations.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Aptitude plus experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
- Knowledge of electricity, carpentry, plumbing, and other technical skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning solutions, chemicals, and solvents.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and plan solutions.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, etc.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to trade.
- Basic computer skills.
- Customer service skills.

This position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.
Employees are exposed to hazardous conditions including, noise, vibrations from machinery, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, elevated work spaces, such as scaffolding, and atmospheric conditions that can affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
