Broadcast Media-Montana Public Radio (MTPR) invites applications for an Environment and Climate Reporter to produce news reports on environmental and climate issues, rural issues, Native American affairs, agriculture, and tourism.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct news research using internet, newspapers, public records, and other sources with a focus on environmental and climate news and policies
  • Develop and maintain news sources
  • Produce and deliver newscast reports and feature length stories using field recording kits, and studio audio equipment
  • Upload audio, video, and text content to website, podcasting platforms, and social media platforms as appropriate
  • Represent Montana Public Radio in Northwestern Montana and answer public inquiries about the station and news policy

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of journalism ethics and standards of fairness and balance
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to research and comprehend complex issues, and translate them into clear, concise news reports
  • Ability to interview, record, write and digitally edit audio, video and still photography files
  • Professional demeanor and behavior and ability to interact with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to post audio, video and photography online across multiple platforms
  • Ability to convert radio broadcast content to online reports
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressures and highly emotional circumstances
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related fields
  • Two (2) years of experience in an environmental and climate reporting role, preferably in public radio or television

Additional Information

Position Number: 777740

Compensation Title: Media Programmer

Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE

Work Schedule: Part-time Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), 12months/year

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
