Description

The Montana American Indians in Math and Science (MT AIMS) invites applications for a Middle School Program Manager (MSP). The MSP serves as the day-to-day coordinator and is responsible for managing all funded activities associated with the MT AIMS Middle School Program. The MSP works collaboratively with program staff to achieve program goals and objectives and partners with the Associate Director and Director to recommend and manage resource allocation.

The MSP supervises and manages Gatherings program staff; oversees the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all program activities; and works with the Associate Director to ensure timely submission of reports and responses to stakeholder requests. The MSP also assists with program promotion efforts and serves as an advocate for MT AIMS students.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate student recruitment efforts in collaboration with selected middle schools.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate summer residential staff, summer instructors, academic-year tutors/advisors, and additional personnel as the MT AIMS program grows.
  • Oversee implementation of program activities, goals, and objectives in coordination with MT AIMS staff, stakeholders, and University policies.
  • Plan and coordinate educational and support services for primarily Native American K–12 students participating in the MT AIMS Gatherings program.
  • Conduct regular evaluations to assess program effectiveness, outcomes, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain financial oversight by monitoring expenditures and ensuring compliance with approved budgets.
  • Manage and maintain the program’s student database; assist the Associate Director with preparation and submission of annual performance reports.
  • Maintain accurate program records to ensure compliance with MT AIMS funder requirements and University of Montana policies.
  • Plan and implement program outreach and promotional efforts; represent MT AIMS at national, state, campus, community, and middle school events.
  • Travel to conduct monthly and/or quarterly visits and provide program support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • Experience supervising students and staff in a residential setting, including behavior management and discipline.
  • Ability to design and deliver curriculum and student services for diverse populations, including Native American students.
  • Knowledge of barriers faced by low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students, with ability to advise and mentor effectively.
  • Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, academic advising practices and requirements of the Montana University System and Tribal Colleges.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web-based tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience, or Master’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with Native American individuals, families, or communities.
  • Understanding of Native American community relationships and educational challenges.
  • Commitment to working with low-income, first-generation, and Native American middle school students.
  • Ability to think critically and perform effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Experience as a resident advisor or supervising residential programs for middle or high school students.

Compensation Title: Program Manager I

Union: FOCUS-MFPE

Work Schedule :Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
