The University Center (UC)invites applications for a Facilities Technician to performs work of lower-level positions and under minimal supervision. Also performs advanced custodial work or responsibilities that are highly complex in nature.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

- Meeting & Event Services:
- Provides customer service to clients utilizing (UC & Todd) facilities and equipment, obtaining information from Conference & Event Scheduling Services and obtaining additional information from clients as needed
- Prepares meeting rooms and outdoor locations for events and activities
- Manager on Duty over Weekend Shifts:
- While on duty, provides consistence presence in the UC or Todd by making facility rounds and conducting check-ins with clients
- Performs a measure of building and facility security by being the staff on duty and notifying proper authorities when security of patron and/or building is in jeopardy
- Custodial Responsibility
- Investigates and identifies problems in the building mechanical systems using computer-based software (e.g. Johnson Controls) and/or physical inspection and reacts appropriately
- Employs safe work practices for self and employees; determines appropriate personal protective equipment
- Changes lamps and filters, which routinely require the use of ladders and/or mechanical lift
- Controls pests as a Pest Control Operator or Pest Control Applicator
- Is competent in all areas of routine and project cleaning the UC
- Operates powered equipment such as auto scrubbers, pressure washers, high and low volume extractors, dry-foamer, swing-scrubber, sweepers, and various vacuums
- Conducting general training; inspecting the work completed by others; may provide feedback regarding hiring, discipline, and firing; perform evaluations of student workers; and maintaining work and employee files

Minimum Qualifications

- High School diploma or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge, skill and ability required to perform duties and responsibilities of lower-level positions
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a safe work environment
- Read instructions, safety information, policies and procedures; and write
- Demonstrated skill in customer service orientation
- Interpersonal, listening and oral communication; organization and time-management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience in directly related cleaning experience, or a combination of experience and education
- Some supervisory experience
- Knowledge of and ability to understand Collective Bargaining Agreements
Physical Requirements(Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.)
- Lifting: Floor to knuckle height, 65#. 12 inches to 40 inches, 60#. Floor to 60 inches, 50#. Floor to 48 inches, 60#. Floor to overhead, 5# sustained, with both hands.
- Carrying: 2 handed front carry 65# for 10 feet.
- Pushing and pulling forces required (during the use of cleaning equipment 25#, handling janitor’s cart 5#).
- Pushing and pulling forces required (handling, pushing and pulling classroom and office furniture, file cabinets, and equipment): up to 60# sustained at waist level.
- Pulling force required for handling Kaivac machine: 65# force.
- Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
- Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead with 5# in both hands, sustained.
- Working overhead from various positions (standing, squatting, and kneeling).
- Balancing when climbing and working on a 6 and 10 and 12- foot ladders.
- Use of various hand grip circumferences and firm hand grip positions while manipulating various tools and equipment (maximum 50#).
Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.

Position Number: 116400
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), 12 months/year
Monday and Wednesday: 6am- 2pm, Tuesday & Thursday: 9:30am- 5:30pm, Friday: 2pm- 10pm
Schedule may change over winter and summer break
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
