Position Overview
This position provides leadership in the management and direction of the animal units of the Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center (PREEC). The Animal Units Operations Manager plans, organizes, directs, and is accountable for all aspects of internal and external service, personnel, facilities, resources, and financial operations associated with the animal units. The position directly supervises the Sheep Center Manager, Beef Unit Manager, Dairy Manager, and Beef Feedlot Manager and supports the teaching, research, and extension missions of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) and the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station (IAES).

The Animal Units Operations Manager provides leadership by establishing operational goals, assessing performance through written evaluations, addressing grievances, and acting on disciplinary matters as necessary.

Position Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Four years of experience in livestock facility operations or agricultural operations management.
  • Experience supervising personnel, managing facilities, and administering budgets.
  • Experience with livestock husbandry (cattle and/or sheep).
  • Experience with computerized record keeping and data management.
  • Experience collaborating and communicating with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and external stakeholders to support operational objectives.
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Agricultural Business, Agronomy, or a closely related field to the domain of this position.
Required Other
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet requirements for driving university vehicles.
  • Ability to work nonstandard business hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.
Additional Preferred
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting teaching, research, and extension programs.
  • Knowledge of farm and industrial safety practices.
  • Experience operating agricultural equipment and vehicles.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in livestock, agricultural, and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
