Position Overview
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, overseeing smooth operation of commercial, athletic facility pools and associated equipment at the university’s Swim Center, pure water systems, water softeners, and depth filters in buildings throughout campus. The position is responsible for record keeping and will work independently problem solving, maintaining, diagnosing, and promptly reporting and repairing leaks and equipment failure to minimize downtime.

The position will participate in on-call rotation to include holidays.

Position Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) precisely
  • Experience following prescribed use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicle
  • 18 years of age
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on-call weekend call-out duty on a regular basis
Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent



Required Other
  • Possess a current Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certificate or ability to acquire within twelve months of hire
Additional Preferred
  • Experience with commercial/public pool maintenance/operations preferred but not necessary
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with power and hand tools, particularly plumbing tools
  • Commercial journey or apprentice level plumbing experience preferred but not required
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Must be able to:
  • Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
  • Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
  • Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Work in inclement weather conditions
  • Participate in a medical surveillance program and respirator fit test
