Position Responsibilities
| Position Summary | The Department of Forest, Rangeland and Fire Sciences (FRFS) seeks a fiscal year, non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor to help support the Student of Fire Initiative at the University of Idaho. The goal of the Student of Fire Initiative is to advance the effectiveness of wildland fire training and education. This role focuses on evaluating and enhancing training programs to meet specific outcomes and the diverse needs of adult learners. The researcher will independently conduct or collaborate on multi-scholar projects, analyzing complex data, adjusting experimental designs, and developing actionable recommendations to improve wildland fire training methodologies. Responsibilities include contributing to peer-reviewed publications, managing project components, supporting grant proposals, and upholding rigorous scientific standards to drive innovation in fire management training practices. The individual will also serve as an independent researcher, or a collaborator on multi-scholar research initiatives, and may have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher. The position is contingent on the continuation of funding. |

| Contingency Description | This appointment is contingent on funding and/or work to support the position. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event of insufficient funding and/or work, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may: (1) change this Agreement by adjusting the employee’s FTE and annual salary throughout the contract year; or (2) terminate this Agreement and employee’s employment prior to the end of the term of appointment, upon 60 days written notice or such lesser amount of notice as the funding or sponsoring agency had to give to the University before decreasing or terminating funding for the employee’s position. Employee further acknowledges and agrees that in the event termination for insufficient funding becomes necessary, the notice provisions of Faculty Staff Handbook 3900B will not apply. |
