Part-time: 5 hours a week, M-F between 11am and 4pm
Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
This posting will hire two part-time employees.
Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Animal Research Facility Manager, and lead animal care technician; the cage washer technician will be primarily responsible for overseeing the organization and cleaning of the cage wash rooms and the items within. Candidate could potentially become full-time or incur more hours depending on workload.
Responsibilities
Job Duty Function Assist the animal care staff by working with the cage washing process.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Understanding/follow SOPs and guidelines for working in a research facility
  • Properly dump soiled cages using a bedding dump station
  • Pre-scrub fish tanks and cages
  • Properly load and use cage washer to sanitize tanks, cages, cage accessories, racks, carts, etc.
  • Check each clean item for any debris prior to placing items on clean racks.
  • Organize cage wash rooms prior to leaving for the day.
  • Bed clean cages, prepare tanks for next use.
  • Mop both rooms of cage wash
  • Remove trash when full

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Sanitizing animal facility, which includes sweeping, mopping, removing trash, assisting animal care staff with any other daily/weekly/monthly tasks throughout the facility.

Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience and ability to keep clear and legible handwritten records
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to pass required IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Courses
  • Availability to work on academic breaks (Summer, Spring, Fall, and Winter breaks)
  • Ability to follow proper lab sanitation guidelines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a lab animal research facility
  • Animal handling experience
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 pounds; enroll in and pass the University’s Respiratory Protection Program
  • Ability to perform required activities including climbing and working from step stools, bending, stooping, and standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to work around rodents
  • Ability to work in rooms that are 80 degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 3 hours at a time
