Posting Context Statement
This position will facilitate collaboration among landowners, agencies, scientists, and local stakeholders in developing actionable plans and implementing place-based wildfire adaptation strategies among various human populations in Idaho. As a partnership between the College of Natural Resources and the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), this position will explore opportunities and challenges surrounding fire adaptation, advance collaborative strategies or foci surrounding fire adaptation among various human populations, and help advance IDL initiatives to increase pre- and post-wildfire management capacity.

Position will be stationed in North Idaho, with flexibility provided to the successful candidate in conjunction with supervisors.
Position Overview
This position supports the planning and completion of educational, outreach or professional programs; working with program staff, students, the public and/or agencies, to plan and oversee program activities. May lead a distinct area for the program such as outreach, assessment or financial management.

Duties may include:
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program deliverables, services and activities
  • Coordinate a team with a variety array of talents and responsibilities
  • Collect, compile and summarize program data for reports
  • Participate in developing program operating goals, objectives and protocols
  • Maintain program budgets, monitoring and reviewing transactions for compliance with program requirements
  • Active participation in the development and submission of program proposals
  • Lead collection and compilation of program assessment data
  • May supervise the work of others or lead a team to accomplish assigned goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Two years of program coordination or program management experience
  • Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals
  • Collecting, compiling, summarizing and analyzing data for administrative reports
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree; four additional years of experience in program coordination (for a total of six years) may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to be on call and respond to off-hour emergencies within 30 minutes
Additional Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a wildfire, natural resource social science, or related natural resource discipline
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a wildfire, natural resource social science, or related natural resource discipline
  • Formal training or experience in applied extension, outreach, or coordination of collective action, including demonstrated skill in coordinating or facilitating working groups or collaboratives addressing environmental issues
  • Ability to design, implement and monitor outreach or extension efforts, with an emphasis on the co-development and implementation of collective natural resource or wildfire management actions/agreements or plans
  • Ability to contribute toward broader University of Idaho research on wildfire management, emergency management, collaborative natural resource management, or related policy applications
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative social science, economic or ecological methods for obtaining data
  • Ability to work with state agency land managers in the achievement of goals surrounding wildfire management and risk reduction
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate various groups of stakeholders toward collaborative decisions that inform or utilize various forms of information (e.g. local knowledge, scientific findings, joint fact finding)
  • Oral and written communication skills relevant to scientific and natural resource management audiences
