Job Summary

This Part-Time Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the lead creative content designer and graphic designer for the Enrollment Management Marketing, Communications, and Visit Experience team! The purpose of this position is to support the goals of the Enrollment Management Division through the strategic creation and implementation of marketing materials that align with brand identity, improve user experience, and achieve marketing goals. This position is part-time and reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications in Enrollment Management and collaborates closely with all members of the Enrollment Management Marketing, Communications, and Visit Experience team and various departments and teams within the division, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Bursar, and Precollege Outreach and Engagement. The Assistant Director also collaborates with campus partners, colleges, schools, and programs to support their marketing and communication efforts.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Creative Content, Web and Graphic Design
  • Conceptualize and implement visual concepts: Support EM goals and objectives by strategically aligning graphic design elements, photography, and video with the marketing and communications plans created by the Marketing, Communications, and Visit Experience team.
  • Develop and implement creative briefs: Collaborate with EM Marcom team members and campus partners to develop creative briefs that ensure creative work aligns with marketing strategies and brand identity. Design and create the marketing tactics outlined in the creative briefs supporting a variety of campaigns and audiences across multiple channels including email, web, social media, video, digital marketing, visual slideshows, and print.
  • Manage day-to-day design development: Ensure timely and successful execution and measurement of design tactics across a wide range of media using a variety of graphic design tools and systems including CRM and content management.
  • Support the entire student journey through the units in Enrollment Management: Implement design tactics to encourage desired actions within the Admissions, Visitor Experience, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Bursar's, and Precollege Offices for prospective and current students and families.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the target audiences: Consider the unique needs and preferences of students and families and implement design tactics to effectively engage and resonate with each audience.
  • Ensure adherence to brand standards and AI guidelines: Maintain brand consistency across all EM creative content and websites. Serve as a guardian of the CU Boulder brand identity within the EM recruitment marketing team. Follow CU Boulder’s guiding principles for generative AI to ensure creative materials align with our brand values, ethos, ethical standards, and legal obligations.
  • Implement inclusive language practices: Apply inclusive language standard processes across all EM marketing tactics.
  • Present a unified EM message and experience to the target audiences: Partner closely with the other members of the EM Marketing, Communications, and Visit Experience team to ensure a seamless implementation of design tactics.
  • Website designer: Oversee the aesthetics and usability of EM websites focusing on visual layout, user interface (UI), and user experience (UX).
  • Ensure cross-team collaboration: Advise and support team members with web design and graphic design expertise to ensure all efforts work towards successfully and effectively supporting students and families.
  • Communicate complex design concepts: Maintain consistent and easy to understand communication with team members to cascade information, provide guidance, solve advanced problems, and be a sounding board for brainstorming graphic and web design concepts.
  • Content management: Manage creative content including planning, creating, archiving, and following shared governance practices. This includes using backup drives and tools like Asana, SharePoint, and Bynder to streamline workflows.
Campus Partner Creative Content Design Support
  • Serve as an Enrollment Management marketing and communications liaison to campus partners, colleges, and schools: Demonstrate care and inclusion in managing relationships across the university’s organizational structure. Collaborate with key partners to develop design tactics that complement the Enrollment Management unit’s operational marketing and communication plan.
  • Support the development and execution of campus partner marketing and communications: Help students navigate program specific application, admission, and confirmation processes as well as visit campus, apply for scholarships and financial aid, orientation, housing, paying their bill, and support resources.
  • College, school, and department campaign analysis: Provide campaign analysis support to the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, Enrollment Management. Aid in generating campaign reports and strategic recommendations on graphic and web design to enhance conversions and meet objectives effectively.
Analysis & Research
  • Data analysis: Analyze campaign data to evaluate the effectiveness of graphic design and web design efforts, producing insightful reports to guide future strategies. Generate concise reports and recommendations for the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, Enrollment Management, to facilitate a comprehensive analysis of campaign effectiveness.
  • Leverage industry trends: Stay current on industry protocols and market trends.
Other
  • Other duties as assigned: This position will serve as backup for other members of the Enrollment Management Marketing and Communications team on an as needed basis. And may assist with other marketing and communications duties not listed above on an as needed basis.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
  • Three (3) plus years of experience with marketing and communication projects and/or marketing campaigns in a creative/public relations firm, business, academic institution, or nonprofit organization.
  • Three (3) plus years of experience working with a customer relations management (CRM) system; as well as three years as a graphic designer.

What You Will Need

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, PremierePro).
  • Advanced knowledge of Web Express and HTML.
  • Skills and experience working with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite products, publishing, and web software.
  • Excellent people collaboration and motivation skills which will demonstrate the ability to: think strategically and establish direction, lead and organize a team, and follow consistent processes to sustain performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with a broad spectrum of marketing and communication media, including print, social media, web, and other digital technologies.
  • Ability to define and solve advanced problems.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated use of marketing data to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to work successfully with individuals at all levels in an organization.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, deadline-oriented environment.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Five (5) plus years of experience with marketing and communication projects and/or marketing campaigns in a creative/public relations firm, business, academic institution, or nonprofit organization.
  • Five (5) plus or more years of experience as a graphic designer.
  • Experience working with the CU Boulder Brand.
  • Experience working with the customer relations management (CRM) system Slate or SalesForce. Experience in higher education marketing or communications.
