Job Summary
The Department of Art and Art History at CU Boulder invites applications for The Drawing & Painting, Printmaking, Digital Foundations Technician position! This role will provide professional technical and logistical assistance regarding studio/classroom for Drawing & Painting, Printmaking, and Digital Foundations areas. The position is responsible for management of Graduate Assistants (GAs) and Graduate Part-Time Instructors (GPTIs), and overall oversight and maintenance of the Drawing & Painting, Printmaking, and Digital Foundation area classrooms. The position oversees, repairs, and/or replaces related equipment (including easels, intaglio and relief printmaking presses, silkscreen equipment, digital output tools), monitors safety, such as oversight of caustic solutions, acids, and solvents, directs proper use of equipment, and schedules studio monitors (where applicable for open studio hours) and figure models for classes. The position also maintains inventories and orders specialized studio and classroom supplies and materials. The position manages the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) needs of studios and classrooms, including providing an inventory of chemicals and following proper disposal procedures.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Health and Safety of the Various Classrooms/Studios
- Oversees student welfare and safety in Drawing & Painting, Printmaking, and Digital Foundations Studios.
- Ensures proper equipment use and adherence to procedures.
- Ensures studio equipment and furniture are operational, performing repairs or replacements as needed to maintain a safe and efficient learning environment.
- Handles hazardous waste management documentation and serves as liaison with EH&S for the safe and timely disposal of materials such as paints, inks, acids and solvents.
- Develops studio-specific safety training manuals for those who use classroom/studio spaces.
- Verifies that students, faculty, and staff adhere to the rules and regulations of EH&S.
Scheduling and Ordering for Studio/Classroom/Area Needs for all Classes and Studios
- Collaborates with area coordinators in Drawing & Painting, Printmaking, and Digital Foundations to support daily operations.
- Maintains inventory of consumable materials and procures supplies needed for all courses and (when appropriate,) student projects. Consults with area coordinators and business manager about area-specific annual budgets.
- Partners with instructors to schedule weekly figure models for classes and studio monitors for classrooms.
Day-to-day Supervision, Operation and Management of all Studios/Classrooms/Shops Within Areas
- Engages regularly with faculty, lecturers, GPTIs, and GAs to assess and address the unique needs of each classroom and studio, ensuring appropriate support for teaching activities.
- The position is responsible for scheduling, approving work records, and general supervision of bi-weekly student employees.

This is a 50% time position that will be required to be on campus during the hours of 8:00a - 5:00p.

The starting salary for this 50% time position is $19,656-$21,800.

What We Require
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the position.
- Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Must be a Colorado resident at the time of application.
What You Will Need
The position will be working with their hands at times; an interest in mechanical (nuts and bolts) repairs to anything from specialized equipment (printing presses, drying racks, easels, etc.) to furniture and fixtures is necessary.
What We Would Like You to Have
Professional technician must have several years of experience in a studio setting and/or MFA in related field(s).
The technician should be familiar with contemporary software and digital techniques involved in image production for artists.
