ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
TES is hiring three (3) Maintenance Systems Operators to help support campus operations and provide emergency response services to campus building maintenance systems.
Duration: These roles are anticipated to last roughly 5.5 - 6 months.
Compensation and Benefits: $49.94 per hour. Eligible for Medical Benefits, Vacation, Sick, and Holiday pay.
Location: 100% on site
Available work schedules: - Shifts include 1) Tues-Sat 6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., 2) Mon-Fri 6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and 3) Sun-Thur 6 a.m. -2:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION
- Operate, maintain, and repair building utility systems including boilers, hot water systems, steam/condensate lines, and Autoclaves.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and controls; perform testing, calibration, and system diagnostics.
- Document and communicate corrective actions to prevent equipment failure and optimize energy use.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, operational procedures, and applicable building codes.
- Foster positive, collaborative working relationships across the department and campus community.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Perform skilled work in maintaining and repairing building systems, including HVAC, steam, water, pneumatic, compressed air, refrigeration, autoclaves, and MEP components.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues; communicate technical findings and recommend repairs.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, control sequences, and isometric drawings.
- Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools; follow safety protocols and ensure system security.
- Apply knowledge of building codes, UC policies, and procedures in a service-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Work independently or collaboratively with diverse teams; manage shifting priorities and complete assignments with follow-through.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- DOJ/FBI background checks and clearances are required prior to hire.
- DMV check and clearance are required prior to hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
- Ability to work in morgues, gross anatomy and pathological laboratories where human and animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of worker.
- Must be physically able to navigate tight spaces, travel on foot across campus, and work in environments including labs and morgues.
This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $104,275 - $104,275 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $49.94 - $49.94
