ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
UC San Diego is hiring a temporary Finance Director to support the campus operations for the 2024 - 2025 School Year.
Duration: This role is anticipated to last from January 2024 - June 2024.
Compensation: $33.29 - 46.22/hour. Eligible for paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.
Work Schedule: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday
Location: Hybrid in La Jolla.
DESCRIPTION
The Finance Director will oversee Revenue, Accounts Receivable, and Letter of Credit Federal Draws Teams within the Financial Operations division within BFS. This role is responsible for overseeing revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and federal draw administration, including letter of credit compliance, while providing leadership across multiple teams and departments on campus. The Director ensures efficient and compliant cash and revenue management, aligning with federal, state, and institutional regulations. In addition, the Director will address complex accounting issues related to revenue recognition, conversion issues and correcting system & financial data, and resolving complex reconciliations. The Director will also oversee audit requests and lead year-end closing procedures, ensuring that ICA & UCOP requests are prepared timely and accurately. This role includes monitoring team projects, driving process improvements, and ensuring adherence to financial reporting and regulatory standards. Regular updates will be provided to the Associate Controller regarding project progress, team initiatives, and financial operations status.
Leads revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and federal draw processes, ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Oversees the administration of letter of credit draws, ensuring proper documentation, reconciliation, and regulatory compliance.
Manages the preparation and reporting of federal and state cash draws, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
Addresses and resolve complex accounting issues related to revenue recognition, financial data conversion, and reporting discrepancies.
Leads and manage year-end closing procedures, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements. Provide oversight and guidance to teams within Financial Operations (FinOps) on financial processes and reporting standards.
Monitors progress on team projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals, identifying potential issues, and driving resolutions.
Develops and implements policies and procedures to improve financial operations and ensure data integrity and compliance with financial reporting standards.
Regularly communicates updates to the Associate Controller on financial operations, team initiatives, and year-end closing procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Extensive experience in revenue management, accounts receivable, federal draw administration, and financial reporting, with expertise in resolving complex accounting issues.
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations and financial reporting requirements. Proven ability to lead teams and manage cross-functional projects, driving operational efficiency and process improvements.
Experience in managing year-end closing procedures and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial statement preparation.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide strategic guidance and updates to senior leadership.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration with 8+ years of Accounting or Finance experience in a leadership role managing cross functional teams
Proven experience in cash accounting and accounts reconciliations, demonstrating meticulous management of complex financial transactions.
Strong understanding of financial principles, cash management, and reconciliation processes.
Proficient in large ERP accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel.
Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience with process improvement initiatives is a plus.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
