Summary

This position serves as the Superintendent for Shiloh National Military Park and will be duty-stationed in Shiloh, TN. This position is also open to status candidates under announcement CAHT-26-13073476-ST-MH. You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered under both recruitment methods.

Major Duties

Successful candidates serve as multipliers of leadership capacity-fostering collaboration across organizational boundaries, navigating the complexities of leading experienced executives with diverse perspectives and authorities, and building high-performing organizations grounded in accountability, integrity, and trust. They cultivate enduring partnerships, ensure decisions are lawful and mission-focused, and inspire confidence among employees, partners, gateway communities, Tribal Nations, and the American people. As the Park Manager (Superintendent) you will perform the following major duties: Determines strategic direction, goals, and objectives for Shiloh National Military Park. Responsible for all aspects of management of the park through subordinate staff including planning and programming, public relations, administration, resource management, safety, interpretation, visitor services, and facilities maintenance. Fosters and maintains external relationships and partnerships, such as with community organizations, Native American tribes, elected officials, stakeholders, and partners. Builds coalitions internally and with other federal agencies, state, and local governments, as well as non-profit and private sector organizations to achieve common goals. Ensures compliance with all federal laws and National Park Service (NPS) policies, ensuring that the park's financial and other resources are used strategically and effectively to meet NPS objectives.

You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. AREA INFORMATION: Located in Tennessee with additional sites in Mississippi, Shiloh National Military Park preserves the landscape of the most significant battle fought in the Western Theater of the Civil War. Nearly 110,000 American troops clashed here in a brutal two-day struggle that produced 23,746 casualties-more than the combined casualties of all the nation's previous wars. The nearby town of Shiloh, Tennessee, has a population of just 135, but several larger communities lie within a 20-mile radius, including Palmyra, Clarksville, and Erin. The city of Jackson, Tennessee, is only an hour away. These surrounding areas offer a full range of amenities such as medical and health facilities, schools and universities, shopping, churches, and more. As of 2024, the median home value in the region is $273,135. Park/Government housing is not available for this position. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.
