You will serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic in the Facilities Management Division. First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. Perform Repairs and Overhauls on Heavy Mobile Equipment: Carry out troubleshooting, repair, and reassembly of major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic systems, braking systems, and powertrain assemblies with minimal supervision. Diagnose Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic Malfunctions: Use technical practices, test equipment (oscilloscopes, compression gauges, computer analyzers), and visual/auditory indicators to identify issues and determine the extent of required repairs. Interpret Technical Manuals, Schematics, and Specifications: Read and apply technical diagrams, service manuals, and specifications to correctly measure, fit, install, and adjust parts and systems. Operate, Inspect, and Service Heavy Equipment: Operate a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment; perform safety inspections, servicing, and fueling prior to operation to ensure equipment readiness. Use and Maintain Tools and Test Instruments: Utilize hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and diagnostic instruments to repair, or rebuild vehicle systems while maintaining tools in safe working condition. Troubleshoot, Prioritize, and Complete Work Orders Independently: Perform repairs through work order systems, determine repair priorities based on equipment condition and mission needs, and complete tasks thoroughly with minimal return work or oversight.Education
