Ensures assigned personnel consistently meet fire readiness standards.Responsible for making on-site evaluations of conditions, making tactical decisions, and determining appropriate responses.Determines pre-suppression and suppression needs annually and facilitates procurement.Develops and implements a training program for the Hotshot Crew in compliance with applicable requirements of providing complete coverage of fire suppression, procedures, methods, techniques, and physical conditioning.Responsible for fire related assignments and project work, such as monitoring fuel inventories, preattack planning, brush disposal, backlog fuels disposal and preparation.Plans the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigns work to employees, and establishes production or quality standards for the unit’s work.Education

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period. Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable). Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination. Under age 37; less than age 37 after subtracting the months of Permanent Federal Service in a primary or secondary firefighter/law enforcement position or a veteran preference eligible, older than age 37 and is requesting a waiver to the requirement.
