Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily warehouse operations while also actively participating in office moves, packing, and transporting goods for customers. The role provides day-to-day management of operational functions, including supervising automated procurement processes and supporting housing-related departmental activities. The position requires delivering excellent customer support while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The operator directs and monitors warehouse activities while also serving as the primary purchasing liaison with multiple vendors, contractors, and professional staff. Overall, this role requires a balance of leadership, operational expertise, and customer service to maintain efficient warehouse operations.

Provides day to day management over operational functions of a warehouse facility. Serves as the lead for automated procurement functions and staff within housing-related functions of a department. Works with management and staff to insure that program goals are met and deadlines are adhered to. Provides customer support both internally and externally and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations. Manages all aspects of a complex warehouse system, including maintaining and administering equipment and supply inventory databases. Supervises, directs and monitors all staff in annual inventory process and warehouse functions and activities. Serves as purchasing liaison with multiple vendors, contractors and professional staff.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This is a job classification in the Skilled Trades job family. This classification is responsible for the day to day management over the operational functions of a departmental warehouse facility and oversight of staff engaged in automated housing services procurement, warehouse database administration and warehouse maintenance. This classification may require a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of a complex warehouse system; maintains and administers inventory of equipment, tools, materials and supplies in a comprehensive database to ensure proper tracking and costing of supplies and materials used in client homes. Develops and maintains detailed, organized distribution and receiving process for warehouse. Provides quality control measures to ensure proper documentation for job costing and inventory control. Responsible for keeping all test equipment calibrated and maintained in proper working order to meet program contract obligations.
  • Serves as purchasing liaison with vendors, contractors and staff to obtain price quotes on non-contracted materials and supplies and ensures high quality merchandise at a competitive price. Prepares requisitions for materials, supplies and contracted or professional services and receives and processes invoices for payment in automated system. Trains, monitors and reviews staff in preparation of requisitions. Works with other inter and intra-departmental staff to resolve issues related to invoices, purchase orders and other items.
  • Plans, organizes and communicates with supervisors and assessors to ensure requisite materials and supplies needed to complete all work projects are available and accounted for. Obtains daily status updates on contracted services and installed equipment. Communicates with management and staff to ensure all staff have the personal protective equipment necessary to assist in preventing injury to employees and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensures compliance with current policies, procedures and regulations. Reports problems to management. Monitors budget and works closely with vendors and staff to establish procedures for monitoring of contract compliance issues. Compiles data and develops reports. Maintains knowledge of federal, state, local and county applicable laws, rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Receives, monitors, tracks and processes purchase requests for materials, supplies and contracted and professional services. Reviews and verifies accuracy of transactions and information, resolves discrepancies and obtains required authorizations. Documents and tracks related purchasing activities to ensure timely processing of job related requests.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. AND five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in warehouse operations or related field, including one (1) year of lead experience;

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Valid Texas Driver's License.
Forklift certification.

Preferred:
Experience in automated inventory systems.
Spanish Speaking

Work Environment & Other Information

Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, occasional heavy lifting with assistance, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, client/customer contact, squatting, occasional crawling, and working in cramped or confined spaces or areas for extended periods of time to perform the essential functions. Subject to contact with hazardous waste, foul odors, animal and human fecal matter, insects and rodents, toxic or potential hazardous chemical or substances, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and high voltage. Requires work indoors/outdoors in all types of weather (excessive heat and cold).

Travis County employees play an important role in business continuity. As such, employees can be assigned to business continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.
