Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications for Europe, the Marketing and Communications Manager, Southeast Europe will help advance The Nature Conservancy’s conservation impact across the Western Balkans.

The role supports priority freshwater protection and nature-positive renewable energy acceleration work in Southeast Europe, working closely with the regional conservation team and partners. The position is responsible for planning, executing, and analysing integrated marketing and communications activities that raise awareness, influence decision-makers, and support fundraising efforts to advance conservation.

This role manages a broad communications portfolio, including media relations, digital platforms, donor communications and reporting, and campaign support, notably for the United for Rivers initiative. The role also plays a key part in supporting communications for TNC’s renewable energy program in Southeast Europe, helping to showcase impact, build partnerships, and support policy relevant engagement.

The Marketing and Communications Manager will work within a matrixed, multi-country organisation, collaborating closely with colleagues across TNC Europe, Global Marketing and Communications, conservation programs, and external partners.

If you are motivated by impact and collaboration and want to use communications to help accelerate freshwater protection and nature‑positive renewable energy solutions in Southeast Europe, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to do so.

This is a one-year, fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension. The role can be based in Belgrade or TNC’s regional office in Zagreb.

Responsibilities and Scope:

  • Co-creates and leads implementation of the Marketing and Communications strategy for Southeast Europe, aligned with TNC brand, communications, and conservation priorities.

  • Develops and executes communications plans to support the freshwater conservation and renewable energy programs, including conservation milestones, campaigns, and fundraising objectives.

  • Manages media engagement across Southeast Europe, including cultivating journalist relationships, drafting press materials, and supporting spokesperson preparation.

  • Plans, creates, edits and distributes high quality content across channels, including websites, newsletters, donor reports, briefing documents, blogs, fact sheets, and social media.

  • Manages and refreshes digital platforms relevant to Southeast Europe program, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with TNC standards.

  • Leads and coordinates communications for the United for Rivers campaign, including digital content, partner communications, and reporting.

  • Supports communications for TNC’s renewable energy program in Southeast Europe, working closely with program staff to identify storytelling opportunities, develop materials, and support events and partnerships.

  • Contributes to fundraising and donor engagement through proposal inputs, reports, presentations, briefings, and site visit materials.

  • Coordinates regularly with Europe and Global Marketing and Communications colleagues to align messaging and contribute to pan-European and global campaigns.

  • Tracks progress against communications objectives and prepares regular reports and insights for internal stakeholders.

  • Organizes and coordinates multiple projects simultaneously, working within agreed timelines and budgets.

  • Does not manage staff directly, but may coordinate the work of peers, consultants or other external vendors as required.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 5 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience cultivating and managing client/customer relationships.

  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading.

  • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Southeast Europe and familiarity with the regional media and stakeholder landscape.

  • Proven experience writing, editing, and proofreading high‑quality communications materials in English, Serbian and Croatian. Macedonian and Albanian also beneficial.

  • Experience managing digital platforms and social media channels.

  • Media relations experience, including pitching stories and supporting spokespeople.

  • Experience supporting fundraising communications and donor reporting.

  • Ability to work independently with sound judgement while collaborating effectively in a matrixed, multi‑country environment.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Knowledge of current and evolving trends in marketing, communications, and media.

  • Relevant design and technology skills to prepare presentations, analyse data, and construct reports.
