The Idaho Sagebrush Sea Program Manager directs all aspects of The Nature Conservancy’s Sagebrush Sea Program in Idaho. They are responsible for developing and sustaining an inspiring and compelling vision of success. They act as a leader and spokesperson for the Conservancy’s sagebrush work in Idaho, engaging and presenting to key audiences including agencies, Tribes, staff, donors, media, partners, and policymakers. They work closely with government agencies and TNC’s Development team to raise capital and operating funds from public and private sources. They build, direct, and provide support to a team of dedicated team members and collaborate with Conservancy colleagues across the Western U.S. and North America to achieve success. It is expected that this approach will lead to new ways of working with Tribes, partners, and colleagues across the West to ensure strong, lasting, and significant contributions to the Conservancy’s 2030 goals.

The Idaho Sagebrush Sea Program Manager provides strategic vision, leadership, and management for the Conservancy’s efforts to improve the resiliency of Idaho’s 28 million acres of shrub-steppe communities. They provide direction, oversight and accountability for the Program and integrate all aspects of implementation – including complex collaboration and agreements, strategy design and tracking, policy and relationship development, outreach and communications, public and private fundraising, and staff recruitment and supervision. They use policy, science, strategic partnerships, and advocacy to catalyze and fund Sagebrush Sea restoration activities at scale. They will be a spokesperson and key point of contact both internally and externally on Sagebrush Sea conservation priorities. They actively engage and contribute to Conservancy initiatives such as the Western U.S. & Canada Division’s Sagebrush Sea Program. They deliver conservation in ways that support priorities and outcomes identified by Indigenous communities. They build, lead and supervise our Idaho Sagebrush Sea Program staff and teams, including interns, volunteers, and contractors. They are responsible for setting goals, identifying metrics, tracking outcomes, and communicating progress towards our 2030 goals. At times, they will work to support additional conservation programs in Idaho and the Western U.S. & Canada Division in support of our 2030 goals.

Responsibilities & Scope:

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive program to advance conservation within Idaho’s Sagebrush Sea and maximize contributions to TNC’s 2030 goals.

  • Provide strategic vision, leadership, and management of the Idaho Sagebrush Sea Program in all respects, including promoting, integrating, and supporting all aligned work and staff within TNC.

  • Supervise Program staff, interns, and volunteers, including leading recruitment efforts, managing performance, facilitating training, and supporting career development as appropriate.

  • Manage Program finances, including by developing complex grants and funding agreements with partners, negotiating and contracting with vendors, developing and managing budgets, meeting fundraising targets, and controlling costs.

  • Ensure delivery of all Program deliverables and compliance with internal policies and external requirements.

  • Represent the Program’s work to internal and external audiences, including internal staff, trustees, donors, partners, and the general public.

  • Develop effective partnerships with a diverse range of individuals and organizations, including nonprofit partners, Tribal Nations, community groups, and government agencies.

  • Work collaboratively in support of TNC priorities, programs, and initiatives beyond the scope of the Program.

  • Meet all applicable conditions and expectations of employment, including TNC Competencies.

  • The primary work location for this position is Idaho. Specific locations within Idaho are negotiable.

  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently and on short notice, sometimes on weekends.

  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

  • This position reports to TNC Idaho's Director of Conservation Programs.

What You’ll Bring:

  • BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads, and finances under deadlines.

  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives, and managing performance.

  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups, and/or government agencies.

  • Experience negotiating.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $78,000 - $83,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
