TNCC is a science-led and collaborative organisation that works with a wide range of government and non-government partners to address key sustainability challenges facing India through on-the-ground charitable projects as well as research studies. The key areas of focus are conservation and restoration of natural resources, biodiversity, and climate change – mitigation as well as adaptation.

We seek an Associate Director-Finance and Operations to provide finance- and operations-related services. S/he will manage core accounting, finance, administration, and compliance activities. ADFO will work closely with senior leadership of the organisation and may also participate in critical meetings with donors, partners, Board and external stakeholders. S/he will manage multiple projects and collaborate with colleagues in the programme team and other departments. S/he will lead a small team and carry out all finance and operations related activities in accordance with government regulations, industry standards, and TNCC policies/procedures. S/he will respond to complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area and will leverage constructive and effective relationships with a wide range of staff, including senior management. The position is based in New Delhi and reports to the Executive Director. This is a two-year position with a possibility of renewal subject to performance and management decision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain books of accounts and other statutory records in compliance with the requirements of the Companies Act, Income Tax Act, GST Act, FEMA and other applicable laws as well as policies/ procedures of TNCC.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process, ensuring timely preparation, accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Co-lead the annual Planning & Budgeting Process for TNCC in collaboration with cross functional teams.
  • Work closely with the company’s Chartered Accountants, Company Secretary, and legal counsel on legal
  • and regulatory matters including filing of statutory returns and deposit of taxes within the stipulated time.
  • Organise and facilitate Board meetings and maintain adequate records as per requirement under The Companies Act.
  • Support programme and fundraising teams in preparing proposal budgets, and finalising contracts and agreements.
  • Lead internal initiatives for improving organisational systems related to financial and administrative processes, data security, time allocation, cashflow management, etc.
  • Periodically review and revise financial/administrative guidelines and address employee queries on related matters.
  • Perform financial analysis, cashflow projections and prepare monthly financial MIS to be shared with team members and leadership.
  • Partner with TNC’s ethics and compliance team and internal audit to strengthen governance and risk management practices.
  • Manage bank accounts and approve payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organisational policies.
  • Jointly review monthly project progress and fund utilisation with programme teams and the Executive Director, ensuring alignment with budgets and project delivery targets.
  • Conduct due diligence/financial review of vendors and partner organisations including review of their financial reports. Collaborate with other TNCC teams and provide them with required financial information in a timely manner.
  • Oversee procurement, office management and safekeeping of assets.
  • Manage office supplies and equipment, including ordering and restocking.
  • Maintain books of accounts and other records as per statutory and donor requirements.
  • Participate in negotiations for contracts and agreements and support other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or a related field with seven to fourteen years of relevant experience, including three years in a non-profit organisation.
  • Experience working collaboratively with various teams.
  • Good understanding of accounting practices, maintaining books of accounts and other statutory requirements. Chartered Accountant (CA) with seven years of post-qualification experience in Accounting, Financial Reporting, Budgeting and Statutory Compliance.
  • Strong planning and execution skills.
  • Good knowledge of Tally and Excel software packages.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) for presentations, conversations, and documents.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions based on analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgement.
  • Experience of managing a diverse portfolio of projects.
  • Ability to work in partnership with all levels of staff in a collaborative or advisory role to champion process-focused initiatives and implement plans to transition the organisation to an improved state.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving technology and tools related to business process management. Proficiency in synthesising complex data from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary
