Roadway Engineer Lead

Position Overview
Davey Resource Group is seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Engineer with a focus in transportation and roadway design to join our growing team of engineering professionals. This role involves contributing to a variety of infrastructure projects, including the design and development of roadway systems, intersections, traffic control plans, and related civil components. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that support safe and efficient transportation networks.
Job Duties
- Support the planning and design of roadway projects, including geometric layout, pavement design, drainage, lighting, and traffic engineering
- Assist in preliminary engineering phases, including conceptual and schematic design development
- Prepare detailed design calculations and engineering documentation in compliance with local, state (ODOT), and federal standards
- Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and Traffic Control plans
- Produce contract documents including specifications, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure project requirements and permitting processes are met
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules and deliverables
Core Competencies
- Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking:
Ability to make sound engineering decisions and apply technical knowledge across diverse project types - Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation is preferred
Familiarity with stormwater design and roadway drainage systems
Experience with both simple and moderately complex roadway design projects - Communication & Leadership:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams - Collaboration & Innovation:
Willingness to consult with senior engineers and contribute to the development of improved design techniques and workflows
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in roadway and transportation design
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio required or abitilty to attain
- Demonstrated experience with ODOT and/or local transportation standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required; experience with OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation is a plus
Additional Information
- Work Schedule: Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week; flexible scheduling available based on project needs
- Travel: Minimal local travel may be required; no overnight travel anticipated
