Position Overview

The GIS Technician will play a crucial role in maintaining and developing the organization's Geographic Information Systems. This position involves the creation, editing, and analysis of spatial data, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GIS principles, proficiency in GIS software, and proven experience in a similar role. This is an hourly position requiring a keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality spatial data.

Job Duties

  • Create, digitize, and edit geographic data from various sources, including aerial imagery, CAD files, and survey data.

  • Perform data conversions and transformations between different formats and coordinate systems.

  • Maintain and update existing GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

  • Conduct spatial analysis to support various departmental needs and projects.

  • Generate maps, reports, and other visual representations of spatial data for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assist in troubleshooting GIS-related issues and provide technical support to users.

  • Document GIS processes, workflows, and metadata according to established standards.

  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to understand their GIS requirements and deliver solutions.

  • Perform quality control checks on GIS data and products.

  • Stay informed about new GIS technologies, software, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education of an ssociate's degree in GIS, Geography, Cartography, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of previous hands-on experience working as a GIS Technician or in a similar GIS-focused role.

  • Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS software suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcCatalog) or other industry-standard GIS platforms.

  • Strong understanding of geospatial data types, projections, and coordinate systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in digitizing, editing, and maintaining spatial data.

  • Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and other technical drawings.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to report full time to an office location (Richfield, Ohio)
