Position Overview

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) is looking for a highly motivated mid-level Arborist/Urban Forestry Consultant (5+ years of experience) to join our urban forestry team as an urban forester with a business development focus. Candidate will provide business development, marketing, and sales support to help grow WSSI’s urban forestry/arboricultural consulting, for all WSSI’s regional offices with a specific focus on the VA/MD/DC market, while assisting with project management and conducting field work.

Job Duties

  • Assist with project management
  • Assist with urban forestry projects as needed, including tree assessment,
  • Lead business development and marketing efforts for the urban forestry team with minimal supervision, including:
    - Develop marketing strategies for the VA/MD/DC area for urban forestry/arboricultural consulting opportunities
    - Identify and research potential clients
    - Develop and maintain client relationships
    - Prepare proposals and assist with RFP responses
    - Participate in marketing events and industry associations
    - Work with WSSI’s Marketing Department to leverage marketing opportunities such as social media, sponsorships, events, and other client communications

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, urban forestry, landscape architecture, or a related field.
  • High level of networking and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with marketing, business development, sales, and project management.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines under limited supervision.
  • Experience in arboriculture; tree preservation; tree root patterns and morphology; and forest and landscape plant identification, including native and non-native trees and shrubs.
  • Experience with civil, architectural, and landscape architecture plans, details, and specifications as they relate to conflicts with trees and environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work closely with design and construction management teams and local government.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ISA Certification and/or ASCA RCA
  • MD Licensed Tree Expert and/or MD Licensed Forester, or similar
  • Familiarity with civil engineering; land clearing; site work; residential, commercial, and institutional construction and renovations; landscape design/construction; underground utilities construction and design
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies and ability to work well with regulators
  • Ability to interpret and apply municipal tree regulations in a variety of jurisdictions.
