GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a dedicated Habitat and Access Feedground Technician for a six-month opportunity based in Jackson, Wyoming. This rewarding role offers the chance to work directly on the land, supporting vital wildlife habitat and access initiatives that benefit both elk populations and the public.
In this position, you’ll carry out a variety of land management practices tied to the development and maintenance of elk feedgrounds, Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs), and Public Access Areas (PAAs). You’ll play a key role in maintaining 22 elk feedgrounds across the Pinedale and Jackson regions—contributing to the health and sustainability of Wyoming’s iconic wildlife.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.- Irrigation – flood and gated pipe
- Fence construction and maintenance – elk fence, stackyards, wildlife, and stock fence
- Knowledge and experience in farming – Harrowing fields, drilling seed, haying – cutting, raking, bailing and stacking
- Operation and maintenance of farm equipment (tractors, skid-steers, backhoes).
- Operation of power tools,4x4 pickups, and trailers.
- UTV/ATV operation and maintenance
- Weed identification and control
- Provide outreach information and assistance to the public
- Work on other projects as assigned
Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:Preference will be given to those with a farm or ranch background or experience related to range management, fish and wildlife resource management, habitat development, or to those with a baccalaureate degree in wildlife management, range management, ecology, biology, zoology, or a closely related field.
..Must have a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge and experience in farming.
- Knowledge of wildlife management, natural resource management, range management, wetland management, and habitat management.
- Must be able to effectively and safely operate trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, tractors, ATVs, power tools, and hand tools.
- Skill in written and oral communication and in interpersonal relations.
- Ability to work alone and exercise independent judgment.
- Skill in organizing, planning, prioritizing, and managing time.
- Ability to listen, be a team player, and communicate with other employees and the public.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Extended stays outdoors.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Position will work independently outside in all weather conditions.
- Requires strength and stamina to work in extreme outdoor conditions and pack heavy supplies to remote locations.
- Must be able to effectively and safely operate trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, tractors, ATVs, power tools, and hand tools.
- FLSA: Non-exempt
- Position will be located in Jackson, with housing provided.
- Tentative start June 1, 2026, through November 30, 2026
- Uniform, rain gear, and other necessary gear will be provided when in the field.
