• Supervision of professional audit staff by providing direction, instruction, counseling, and guidance.
• Supervision of audits and projects such as the conduct of independent compliance and performance and operation audits of school districts, state, and local governmental entities.
• Supervision of audits with multiple and diverse accounting systems, computer systems, database systems, and operating and personnel policies and procedures with each audit to protect public funds in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
• Review work performed by professional staff.
• Annually perform risk analyses and create audit schedules.
• Must be able to testify before a Board or in court.
• Provide training/public appearances.
  
  

PREFERENCES:


Professional Certification--CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, or other certification related to auditing.


KNOWLEDGE:

• Direct supervision of up to 8 people with indirect supervision of up to 12 people.
• Assign projects to auditors and monitor the progress of audits and projects.
• Create objectives for audits or projects.
• Address complex problems faced in the field by audit teams.
• Conduct analysis of audit work papers and reports to ensure they achieve objectives.
• Follows standards and determine that audit work papers can stand alone and ensure work papers support conclusions, synopsis, and reports.
• Recommend changes or improvements and approve the sufficiency and adequacy of audit evidence.
• Identify factors indicating risk levels in audit entities and identify entities of greater risk levels.
• Prepare audit schedule and modify as needed assigning personnel and set timelines.
• Respond to citizens, entity staff and officials, and other persons' complaints, questions, issues, or matters that could indicate risk.
• Defend your own work as well as the work of others in a judicial setting, deposition, or other formal hearing.
• Defend issues relating to division policies and procedures.
• Ensure staff is prepared to testify.
• Review changed statutes and professional standards and update policies, procedures, manuals, and standard audit programs in compliance.
• Keep current on accounting standards (GASB) to determine whether entities are in compliance with GAAP.
• Participate in the establishment, implementation, and reporting of division goals and strategic plans.
• Research laws, statutes, constitution, accounting, and auditing pronouncements and guidance to provide answers to public entities, officials of state agencies, staff, citizens, and Certified Public Accountants and share best practices.
• Provide training to public entities on auditing, accounting, or reporting issues.
