GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Production and Printing Technician for the Motor Vehicle Services Program in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position will support all WYDOT license plate printing and production needs and serve all Wyoming County Treasurers.

Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Operates and maintains high volume printers/machinery and PC's.

  • Deals with equipment breakdown during times of critical need, meeting customer needs when they have last-minute pressing deadlines, and last-minute changes to printing requests.

  • Sets up and operates machines that perform operations that may include but are not limited to the following: license plate and decal manufacturing, license plate shredding, cutting, laminating, and shrink wrapping

  • Review printing orders to determine printing specifications, determine customer needs, and guide customers submitting jobs. Explain processes as needed.

  • Prioritize and schedule jobs and determine completion time based on workload and customer deadlines.

  • Perform maintenance on equipment as necessary and contact qualified service techs as needed.

  • Ships and delivers printed products throughout the state.

  • Supports the County Treasurer's license plate production requirements.

  • Responsible for independently completing jobs by setting up operations and maintaining a variety of production equipment

  • Determines the cause of operating errors and takes corrective action.

  • Operates and maintains various machinery, including a forklift, pallet jack, hydraulic tables, metal straightener, calipers, etc.

  • Provides efficient, high-quality printing and transfer of documents and electronic files in a timely and professional manner.

  • Operates computer software.

  • Changes and calibrates print heads.

  • Changes heat-activated color ribbons as needed.

  • Performs routine maintenance.

  • Utilizes computerized techniques.

  • Constantly monitors equipment.

  • Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests.

  • Identifies and analyzes problems to select, implement, and evaluate solutions.

  • Completes quality control of finished product.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:


Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain certification


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the printing and manufacturing fields

  • Knowledge of the operation of high-volume production printing equipment, production color machines and license plate equipment

  • Knowledge of paper characteristics and printing processes

  • Knowledge of computer operations and printer options

  • Knowledge of basic color theory and color management

  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services

  • Knowledge of computer graphic design techniques and materials, design,n and desktop publishing software

  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, technique,s and processes used in the pressroom

  • Ability to perform basic math skills

  • Knowledge of machine operation, repair,r and troubleshooting, and the ability to perform these tasks


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Business)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Business)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business)

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Daily operation of moving machinery/equipment

  • Ability to lift and/or carry materials between 50-75 pounds.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • Works with and around moving machinery, around continuous high noise, chemical odors and paper dust

  • Limited statewide travel to deliver license plates.

  • Limited use of a box truck for deliveries.

    • One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive; funds will be recouped from final pay.
    • Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
    • Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
    • If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
