GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Depredation Technician stationed in Pinedale, WY to monitor and evaluate livestock depredation as part of ongoing research with the University of Wyoming.- Evaluating the cause of death for domestic bovines in an area with grizzly bears, wolves, black bears, mountain lions, and other small carnivores.
- Collecting data and keeping records for population evaluation and modeling.
- Using radio telemetry equipment for locating marked animals.
- Preventing human-carnivore conflicts by working with business agencies, outfitters, property owners, livestock producers, and the public.
- Capture and handling of large carnivores when assistance is needed.
- Using controlled drugs, firearms, and explosives.
- Data Analysis and report writing.
- Conduct damage claim investigations to determine the cause of death in livestock and wildlife and recommend damage compensation when appropriate.
Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference will be given for any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or a closely related field.
Preference will be given for experience in capturing and handling black bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, and grey wolves.
**Must have a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE:- Ability to work long and irregular hours under some adverse conditions and extreme public scrutiny.
- Skills will be required to use firearms, controlled pharmaceuticals, capture equipment, ATVs, horses, 4-wheel drive vehicles, radio equipment, radio telemetry, and power equipment and tools.
- The position will require working with dangerous animals in remote settings.
- Knowledge to participate in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Will require independent decision-making ability and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Will require computer and data analysis skills.
- The position will require heavy lifting and excellent physical condition.
- Knowledge of the ecology of large carnivores and other wild animals.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Operating 4-wheel drive vehicles, snow mobiles, ATVs, riding and packing horses for back country work, and flying in fixed-wing and helicopters in mountain conditions.
- Working in inclement and severe weather conditions. On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Working alone in remote, backcountry locations.
- The position will require heavy lifting and excellent physical condition.
