The role of the Construction & Maintenance Project Supervisor is to supervise, coordinate, and lead the maintenance program within a park management area. The C&M Project Supervisor provides guidance, coordination, and supervision of the trades and maintenance staff who perform maintenance duties on buildings, utility systems, roads, trails, and equipment resulting in the public having safe and functional facilities.
This position plays an important role of the primary interface with the Region Maintenance Manager and the Maintenance Chief on state and regionwide maintenance objectives and priorities.
This position is not eligible to telework, as physical on-site presence is required to perform essential functions.
The Central Cascades Area is in the heart of Washington State, offering a diverse natural landscape to enjoy through all four beautiful seasons. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the Lead and Coordinator of Maintenance in a Park Area under the supervision of the Area Manager:
- Leads and directs the maintenance, repair, and operational development of the park areas and its facilities and equipment.
- Supervises Area Maintenance Staff:
- Schedules work priorities and shift coverage, mentors, recommends disciplinary and corrective action, performs hiring interviews, and develops work plans and evaluations.
- Recruits and hires trades and maintenance staff for the area.
- Project Coordination:
- Responsible for the coordination and completion of the preventative, deferred, routine, equipment, and emergency and unforeseen maintenance within the area.
- Performs repairs and maintenance work in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, water and wastewater systems, and other equipment.
- Develops and controls park maintenance budget for all park area projects and repairs.
- Responsible for Administration.
- Responsible for Water and Wastewater System Operations.
- Coordinates the Equipment Operation and Maintenance within the Area:
- Conducts/provides equipment training for area staff who operate equipment.
- Serves as the Lead and Coordinator of Maintenance in a Park Area under the supervision of the Area Manager:
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Option 1- Two (2) years of experience as a Construction & Maintenance Project Lead.
Option 2- Four (4) years of experience as a Construction & Maintenance Project Specialist.**
OR
Option 3- Eight (8) years of advanced level experience in two (2) or more trades to include: building maintenance, repair, remodeling, construction duties, and mechanical/machinery.**
** Two (2) years of technical or vocational training or education in a building/construction trade may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience.AND
- Two (2) years of supervisor experience including directing the work of employees and providing employee performance feedback.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver's license.
- Public Pesticide Operator's License must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
- First Aid & CPR certification must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Experience working for Washington State Parks or a similar parks and recreation entity.
- Advanced knowledge of repair, maintenance, and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, and materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
- Ability to perform advanced level work in a variety of trades to include proficiency reading schematics and blueprints.
- Expert level skills and experience with the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Experience managing small to large multifaceted projects from start to finish to include coordinating the completion of work, use of contractors/vendors, purchase and supplies, planning, and completion of tasks by a specific timeline.
- Experience organizing and directing employees in project goals and objectives while tracking timelines and effectively communicating with all stakeholders.
- Advanced knowledge and application of building codes and all other rules and regulations governing safety, repair, and maintenance and construction of facilities and tasks.
- Ability to work independently while using good judgement and problem-solving skills in decision making.
- Awareness and willingness to follow safety policies and protocols.
- Promotes cooperation and an eagerness and capacity to learn new skills.
- Self-starter who can see a project through to completion.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, and deliver construction and maintenance projects from initiation through completion, including estimating materials, labor, timelines, and ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.
Technical Expertise in Multi-Trade Construction & Maintenance
- Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on proficiency across multiple trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical systems) to perform, troubleshoot, and oversee complex maintenance and construction work.
Leadership & Crew Coordination
- Supervisory experience including hiring staff, training and development, assigning work, evaluating performance, and taking corrective action when needed. Ability to lead, direct, and support work crews; assign tasks; develop work methods; ensure productivity, accountability, and adherence to standards while fostering a collaborative team environment.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Management
- Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and risk management practices, with the ability to ensure compliance, conduct inspections, mitigate hazards, and promote a strong safety culture.
Problem Solving & Decision Making
- Ability to independently assess situations, respond to emergencies, troubleshoot system issues (e.g., water/wastewater, equipment), and make sound, timely decisions to maintain operations.
The Ability to take Action to Learn and Grow

Requirements:Uniform Information:
All Construction & Maintenance Supervisors are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Construction & Maintenance staff member and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All Construction & Maintenance Supervisors will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years. Uniform stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
Work Conditions: Position works four (4) days a week, Tuesday - Friday from 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position requires travel and overnight travel statewide for meetings, training, and other field work. Adjustment to the core schedule may be needed to meet business needs. Additionally, a flexible work schedule may be negotiable based on supervisory approval and business needs.How to apply:
