What we are looking for:

As the ISS3/GIS Technician you will, provide Geographic Information System (GIS) support to the Forest Resources Division. These positions work as a member of a GIS unit within the Division and is primarily involved in GIS data analysis, quality assurance, quality control and remedying conflicting data from multiple sources. The persons in these positions will need a thorough working knowledge of GIS applications and principles and spatial data design concepts. These positions will be primarily focused on entering streams and roads data while frequently working with Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) staff and ODFW staff to gather, analyze, and adjust GIS data from multiple sources according to established standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of information systems experience in GIS Technology, designing, coordinating, analyzing, and/or developing information databases related to streams.
OR
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two-year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field.

Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with a variety of spatial data such as vector data, raster data, shaded relief, digital elevation models, etc.
  • Experience with communication skills to relay complex information to a wide audience of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Training and technical support experience.
  • Experience and thorough knowledge of GIS applications and principles and spatial date design concepts.
  • Knowledge and ability to research and implement new technology capabilities that result in expanded capacity and efficiencies.
  • Must have proficiency using Esri ArcGIS components, tools, functions, and techniques, such as the Esri ArcGIS mapping suite.
  • Must have proficiency in the design and development of cartographic products using Esri ArcGIS.
  • Must have proficiency using hardware and associated plotters, printers and other peripherals.
