WHAT YOU WILL DO:
As a Natural Resource Specialist 4 – Nearshore Ecology Program Leader you will guide the implementation, study, and management of marine habitats and marine conservation areas within the state of Oregon. You will oversee three projects: Ecological Research, Marine Habitat, and Human Dimensions. You will also guide a team that has the primary responsibility and accountability for ensuring that legislative mandates and expectations established by the Oregon Legislature, Governor, and Ocean Policy Advisory Council (OPAC) are met. The person in this position regularly interacts with collaborative partners, stakeholders, marine policy and science advisory groups, as well as state and local decision makers. This position is responsible for managing and supervising program staff, budgets, grants, and contracts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works a professional workweek, with frequent night and weekend work. Position is not eligible for overtime.
Office work 80% of time, mostly using personal computer equipment. Regular travel by car (two to ten trips in excess of 150 miles each month). Participate in out-of-town meetings, including overnight stays. May include occasional trips to sea (two to 15 days per year).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least three years of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities; AND a Bachelors degree in a Fish or Wildlife Science or closely related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of related coursework, or three additional years of experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program
A Masters degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Master's degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
Note: Applicants who have obtained a Masters degree or Doctorate that included work experience from an internship, work/study, thesis, or similar program may list this experience in their application to receive credit for the work experience. The Master's degree/Doctorate and applicable work experience will be considered separately and both the education and applicable experience may count toward minimum qualifications.

CRIMINAL RECORDS/DMV CHECK:
Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Driving is required for all positions. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state certified driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist.
