Located on Oregon’s rugged south coast, Harris Beach offers a splendid seascape for sightseers, several trails, and miles of sandy beaches and rocky outcroppings to explore. From the day-use area, enjoy beachside picnicking with a picturesque view of the sea stacks dotting the ocean, including the largest island off the Oregon coast.
This position falls under the classification Park Ranger Supervisor.

What you will do:
As a Park Ranger Supervisor at Harris Beach State Park, you will provide direct day-to-day supervision of paid permanent, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteer staff in the protection of state park lands, natural and cultural resources and in the maintenance, operation and repair of park structures, facilities, equipment and utility systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Five (5) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; resource interpretation; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR park maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping); AND/OR natural resource technician experience (e.g.: forestry, fish & wildlife).
OR
(b) A Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; resource interpretation; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR park maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping); AND/OR natural resource technician experience (e.g.: forestry, fish & wildlife).
OR
An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Three and a half (3.5) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; resource interpretation; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR park maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping); AND/OR natural resource technician experience (e.g.: forestry, fish & wildlife).
Special Requirements:
To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment

Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, and visitors.
Decision-Making: Sound judgment and the ability to make informed decisions quickly, especially in emergencies.
Conflict Resolution: Skillful in managing conflicts among staff or with the public, ensuring issues are resolved amicably and efficiently.
Organizational Skills: Proficiency in managing schedules, resources, and tasks to ensure smooth park operations.
Environmental Knowledge: Strong understanding of ecology, conservation principles, and natural resource management.
Park Enforcement: Familiarity with park regulations, and enforcement procedures to ensure visitor safety and resource protection.
Emergency Response: Training and experience in first aid, search and rescue operations, and emergency management.
Maintenance Skills: Knowledge of facility maintenance, including trails, buildings, and other park infrastructure.
Technology Proficiency: Ability to use various software for reporting, scheduling, and managing park operations.

The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS. If you are not yet PERS eligible, the 6.95% pay increase and employee contribution will be effective upon PERS eligibility.
