We are looking to fill a permanent Information Systems Specialist 4 (Wildlife GIS Analyst) position at our Headquarters office in Salem.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
This position will provide technical assistance and GIS services to ODFW staff, with a strong focus on the needs of the Wildlife Division. This position does this through the processing, creation, maintenance, development, and updating of maps and spatial datasets, the use of GIS as an analytical tool, the use of other analysis techniques and engineering procedures to promote effective development, exchange and dissemination of spatial information on fish, wildlife, and their habitats. This position is specifically responsible for addressing the GIS needs related to Wildlife Management Areas, Travel Management Areas, controlled/regulated hunts, and enhancement work conducted in critical fish and wildlife habitats; private lands access maps for Access & Habitat, and Upland Cooperative Access Program sites; wildlife habitat improvement projects for big game, waterfowl and upland birds; and historic and new releases of wildlife species to restore populations to historic range.
The position will create and provide custom maps, web maps with forms for field data collection, tables, data sets, and analyses for agency programs. This work is conducted is in a mixed hardware, software and database management environment, when requested by management and staff, adhering to agency standards for quality, routinely addressing issues and questions that are vital to accomplishing ODFW’s mission.
The position will also provide technical support to agency staff over the phone and in person, in the form of ‘help desk’ style training in the use of GIS and related information management software and interfaces (including field collection tools) for a variety of skill/knowledge levels. The position also prepares and develops formal trainings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires extended, daily use of a computer to type, analyze, and summarize data in an office environment. Occasional overnight travel. Occasional long hours and situations involving tight deadlines, meetings, interagency negotiations, and problem resolution.
Routinely work with others in development and delivery of spatial and tabular data, maps and applications for use in resource management, regulation, and collaborative decision-making activities. Working in a team environment requires participative decision making and cooperative interactions among employees.
Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires supervisor approval.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of information systems experience in geographic information systems (GIS),
- OR -
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, GIS, or related field, or completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND one (1) year of information systems experience in geographic information systems (GIS).
REQUESTED SKILLS:
Requires advanced skills or knowledge in GIS and spatial database technology, computer aided mapping, public relations, math, surveying, computer programming, microcomputer operations, geography, public speaking, supervision, and knowledge of state and local government organizations.
Knowledge of, and experience with GIS software and related hardware
Knowledge of Windows 10 and higher computer operating systems
Knowledge of enterprise geodatabases, raster and vector datatypes, and linear referencing
Familiarity with biological resources and terminology is desirable.
Ability to synthesize biological, physical, and hydrologic data and write project summary reports and status bulletins.
Ability to identify and perform tasks with minimal supervision, strong coordination skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
