Job Description:

The Oregon State Police in Salem, Oregon is hiring for multiple Full-Time, Permanent Fingerprint Technicians, with Underfill Options of Office Specialist 2.

We currently have the following shifts available:

Swing Shift 3:30p-12:00a. 5 days/week with 2 consecutive days off.

Graveyard Shift 12:00a-8:30a. 5 days/week with 2 consecutive days off.

What will you do?

You will analyze fingerprint cards received from various agencies throughout the state to establish positive identification for background check purposes, establishing new State ID numbers (SID) and adding subsequent arrest segments by utilizing the Automated Biometric Identification System and master card file. You will prepare and disseminate accurate criminal history information to authorized requesting agencies in support of regulatory fingerprint background check processes and our criminal justice agency partners. You will also compare fingerprint cards received from various agencies throughout the state to establish positive identification.

You must be able to provide credible sworn testimony in a criminal or civil proceeding arising from the performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications for Fingerprint Technician ($3,476.00 - $4,752.00) (these must be addressed in your resume for full consideration):

One year of experience in fingerprint pattern determination/ridge encoding using an Automated Fingerprint Identification System.


OR


Completion of a 40-hour Federal Bureau of Investigations Basic Fingerprint Identification course or its equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications for Office Specialist 2 (Underfill Option $3,277.00 - $4,443.00) (these must be addressed in your resume for full consideration):

Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents;

OR

An associate degree in any field;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note: If you are selected to move forward in the selection process, you must provide official transcripts from all institutions of higher education that were used in the award of your degree.

Preferred Skills (these must be addressed in your cover letter for full consideration):

  • Ability to communicate with agency staff, personnel in other agencies, the public, and with equipment service technicians in a professional manner.

  • Proficient in processing documents and ensuring accuracy.

  • Proven ability to work independently without close supervision.

  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to use policy or procedure manuals, handbooks, or other types of reference materials and apply the information to specific situations.

Special Qualifications:

  • LEDS certified, or able to obtain certification upon hire.

Detailed Instructions on the Selection Process:

The process will be comprised of the following evaluation assessment (subject to change).

  • Interview- 10 questions based on preferred skills.

Reference Check: the hiring manager will review available documents, including but not limited to, the candidate’s working file, personnel file, HR department records, and Office of Professional Standards records, to determine if there exists any information which would adversely affect the candidate’s ability to adequately perform the duties of the position as it relates to the preferred skills.

The hiring manager will solicit relevant job-related, workplace feedback from a list of references furnished by the candidate, along with references from each current or previous place of employment, to determine if the candidate possesses the minimum qualifications and preferred skills for the job.

The salary listed is the non-PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%. Please review the Classification and Compensation page for more details.
