This is a limited duration with a rotation opportunity (internal state employees). This position may end 7/1/2027, and has the potential to become permanent. The position will be located in Grants Pass.

What we are looking for:

As the Natural Resource Specialist 1, you will assist the Unit Forester in the accomplishing of Federal Forest Restoration management objectives. These objectives and related duties are in the areas of Timber Sale Preparation, Administration of Timber Sale Contracts, Forest Management Planning, Reforestation and Intensive Management, and general Forest Administration. The primary emphasis of this position is on Timber Sale Preparation.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Forestry or closely related Natural Resource Area

OR
Three years of experience in Forestry or a closely related Natural Resource Area.

Note: Driver’s License Check – This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for official State business. As part of the hiring process, the agency uses Advanced Reporting LLC to conduct all required DMV and CDL driving‑record checks. Advanced Reporting LLC will obtain and review the driving record for the top candidate to verify possession of a valid license and an acceptable driving record.

Desired Skills:

  • Skill gathering and analyzing technical or scientific information and drawing conclusions or making recommendations.

  • Skill communicating verbally and in writing with a variety of people to answer questions and explain information.

  • Skill writing clear and concise status, summary, technical, or narrative reports.

  • Displays experience in computers and GIS. This includes experience with software such as ESRI GIS, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).

  • Has a strong background in forest management including timber sale layout, cruising, logging system design, stand exam plots, reforestation, and other related activities.

  • Demonstrates the ability to be highly motived working independently and efficiently on multiple tasks and issues.

Salary determination:

  • Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis for starting salary will be conducted to determine what pay step the successful candidate will be offered.
