The role:
Our Statewide Project Delivery Branch is hiring! As the state structure quality engineer, you will travel across Oregon to visit projects to ensure proper implementation of plans and specifications, proper handling and installation of materials, and statewide uniformity in construction and construction inspection practices. You will also advise, assist and coordinate between our agency’s sections, regions and consultants to support efficient communication, change analysis and field interpretations of contract requirements. A day in the life:
Identify solutions and resolve problems encountered while constructing bridges and other structures.
Provide expert construction inspection instruction and support to inspectors and other field personnel.
Visit all structure construction project sites frequently to monitor construction processes and issues; drive a passenger vehicle in cities and on highways statewide daily.
Maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with field construction personnel and contractors.
Review and inspect structure construction projects for adherence to specifications and conformance to best construction practices.
Recommend improvements to structure designs, specifications, materials and construction practices.
Develop and administer the Bridge Construction Inspector Training Program; direct and/or train field personnel in inspection techniques of structure construction projects.
Provide technical expertise on the constructability of structure designs and review construction plans and specifications prior to advertisement.
Investigate and make recommendations regarding new methods or equipment used in the construction of structures.
Assemble and correlate data gathered from structure construction projects and prepare reports recommending changes or improvements in construction processes or designs.
Extensive statewide travel required with occasional extended workdays and night work.
Outdoor work at project sites is expected more than 50% of the time and involves exposure to traffic, terrain, construction and weather hazards.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6%.

Minimum qualifications:
Possession of a Civil Engineering (CE) license in the State of Oregon OR the ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
OR
Possession of a Structural Engineering (SE) license in the State of Oregon OR the ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
AND
Three years of licensed experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of the position.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain a temporary permit to practice engineering, pursuant to ORS 672.109, within six months from date of hire.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
