As a Mineral Land Regulation and Reclamation Program Field Specialist, you will perform site inspections of aggregate mines in direct support of the management and protection of natural resources for the State of Oregon. This position requires knowledge of field methods in geology or natural resource science related to the operation and reclamation of surface mining. As overview of the primary duties and responsibilities includes:
Supports the aggregate permitting and compliance teams within DOGAMI’s Mineral Land Regulation and Reclamation Program (MLRR) and provides technical assistance and program information to applicants and permittees.
Conducts permit and site file review, field inspections and first-level enforcement to ensure mines and mining related activities do not cause environmental degradation or adverse impacts to adjacent or onsite natural resources.
Performs administrative and technical tasks as assigned and participates as a member of project teams.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
two years of experience in geology or related physical or natural resource science, and a bachelor’s degree in geology or related physical science or engineering, or three additional years of related (pertinent) experience. OR
one year of experience in geology or related physical or natural resource science, and a Master's degree in geology or related physical science or engineering.
Desired Attributes:
Oregon Geologist in Training (GIT) License or ability to become licensed.
Experienced infield data collection methods for geology or closely related natural resource or engineering field.
Experienced in GIS software, tools, and techniques.
Skilled in writing clear and concise legally-sufficient field and research reports.
Ability to clearly communicate controversial and complex scientific information in a constructive and helpful manner to stakeholders and the public.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%. Please review the Classification and Compensation page for more details.
