Job Description:

Oregon State Treasury is recruiting for the position of Accounting Technician. This position is focused on general revenue and expenditure accounting and uses bookkeeping skills to record, review, and reconcile financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Job Duties Summary

Provide payable processing support including, but not limited to:

  • Maintain customer profiles in the statewide accounting system, SFMA

  • Processing invoices with appropriate coding to ensure timely payment

  • Resolving discrepancies and edits transactions to ensure completeness, appropriateness and accuracy

  • responding to vendors and customers by phone or in writing to resolve payment issues

  • collecting Requests for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification (IRS Form W-9) when required

  • Complete year-end close transactions as assigned by senior accountants

  • Reviewing purchase documentation for completeness

Provide receipting support including, but not limited to:

  • Resolve discrepancies in Online Electronic Deposit (OED) and online deposit portals.

  • Reconciliation of the 13 Screen in the statewide accounting system, SFMA. Ensure proper backup for all transactions.

  • Track receipts for Treasury funds as assigned

  • Enter agency accounts receivable invoices in the statewide accounting system

Provide procurement support including, but not limited to:

  • Review purchase requests for goods or services.

  • Create purchase and change orders using existing templates.

  • Route purchase orders or other approval forms to staff with sufficient Expenditure Decision Authority to approve purchases.

  • Implement solutions to shipping, receiving, and billing discrepancies after consultation with the Senior Procurement Officer or manager.

Work Schedule

This position will have the opportunity for a hybrid (remote and in-office) work location schedule; in-office work will be from Treasury’s Salem office. This position will work from the Salem office at a minimum of two days per quarter and as needed for business reasons. Upon hire, employees are expected to be in the office more often for onboarding, learning, and collaboration.

Salary Range

$49,488-$68,568 annually.

Job Classification

This position is classified as an Accounting Technician. This position is a SEIU represented position.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OR

  • One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2; OR

  • Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university; OR

  • At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
