Your New Role – Forest Management Technician - Recreation Technician (Non-motorized Trails)

As a Forest Management Technician, you will support the management of non-motorized trails and related public-use activities across State Forests Division lands. The Forest Management Technician (Non-motorized Trails) conducts field construction and maintenance activities, engages partners and the public, supports volunteer stewardship, and helps ensure safe, sustainable recreation aligned with REI Program goals and ODF policies. Duties Include:

  • Conduct trail maintenance and repair, including, but not limited to, tread repair, brushing, and construction of trail infrastructure.
  • Conduct trail inspections; identify maintenance needs, hazards, resource concerns, and required mitigation.
  • Report project and maintenance activity to the Non-motorized Trails Coordinator.
  • Assist Non-motorized Trails Coordinator with the development and implementation of project plans for trail maintenance and trail improvement projects.

Forest Management Technician - Minimum Qualifications:

Eighteen months of experience working in the field of Parks and Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Planning, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or Forestry Education and Interpretation.

OR
Associate degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Planning, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Studies, Forestry; or a related natural resource field of study.

OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requested Skills:

  • Experience maintaining non-motorized trails, trailheads, and public use areas.

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to provide exceptional customer service in a public setting.

  • Motivated individual with the ability to set daily goals and to prioritize, organize and accomplish assigned tasks independently with general direction and minimal supervision.

  • Good computer skill and the ability to work effectively with a variety programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, Excel, Geographic Info Systems/GIS.)

  • Ability to walk on rough terrain or uneven slopes and trails, stoop or bend around structures or equipment or climb up/down ladders or equipment.

  • Ability to responsibly and safely operate trail maintenance equipment assigned to complete a specified task.

​Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
