Department of Administrative Services (DAS)

The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) supports state agencies across Oregon. We manage buildings, vehicles, equipment, and other essential services that help state employees do their jobs and serve Oregonians. Our Statewide Fleet program maintains and repairs a large variety of state vehicles.

We are looking for an Automotive Technician 2 to join our Fleet Services team. In this role, you will repair, maintain, and service state-owned vehicles. Your work helps keep drivers safe, prevents costly breakdowns, and reduces long-term repair costs for Oregon taxpayers.

Duties include:

  • Diagnose and repair engines, brakes, electrical, HVAC, suspension, steering, and drivetrain systems.

  • Handle routine services: oil changes, inspections, tires, and fluid maintenance.

  • Work with modern vehicle tech—computer diagnostics, safety systems, hybrids, and EVs.

  • Install and remove upfit equipment (radios, partitions, canopies, toolboxes, etc.).

  • Write repair notes, complete estimates, and keep accurate service records.

  • Help keep the shop running smoothly, shuttle vehicles, and support parts and service operations.

  • Provide occasional roadside assistance and lend knowledge to junior techs.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair experience;

OR

A combination of relevant experience and automotive vocational/technical training sufficient for successful performance in the job.

Special Qualifications:

Employees must provide their own hand tools.

Desired Certifications (Not Required)

Having these are helpful, but will not remove you from consideration.

  • ASE Master Technician (Automobile/Light Truck and/or Medium–Heavy Truck)

  • ASE or SAE certifications for Hybrid/Electric Vehicles (HEV/BEV)

Desired Attributes:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic ability

  • Experience with modern automotive computer systems

  • Ability to perform a wide range of repairs independently

  • Understanding of hybrid and EV systems

  • Skilled in routine maintenance and safety inspections

  • Ability to read repair manuals, diagrams, and service information

  • Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills

  • Safe, efficient, and organized work habits

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • This recruitment is for one permanent, full-time, SEIU-represented Automotive Technician 2 position, and may be used to fill future vacancies.

  • *The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
