South Fork Camp is located between Tillamook and Forest Grove on Wilson River Hwy. A typical work week is Monday-Thursday. Work hours are 6:30-4:30. Transportation pick-up and drop off (ODF Van) is provided to and from Tillamook and Forest Grove ODF offices daily. Staff Housing is available at no cost during the work week if needed.

What we are looking for:

  • The Auto Technician II will maintain and repair department gasoline, diesel, electric, propane and hybrid vehicles and equipment to provide safe delivery of services to the public. Duties include:
  • Complete vehicle and equipment repair through cooperative agreements for other state agencies and associations.
  • Interpret manuals and schematics to repair, maintain, and replace vehicle electrical wiring and components.
  • Use a variety of hand tools and electronic diagnostic equipment to complete preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Conduct research of vehicle and light/heavy equipment repair and replacement, and make recommendations to supervisor.
  • Manage district fleet vehicles.
  • Train minimum adults in custody (AICs) in safe shop practices and provides custodial supervision of a portion of the AIC shop crew in small engine repair, metal fabrication and the entire AIC crew in the absence of the Forest Crew Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair experience

OR

A combination of relevant experience and automotive vocational/technical training sufficient for successful performance in the job.

The following certifications are desired qualifications. Not having these certifications will not eliminate you from consideration.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician certifications in Automobile/Light Truck and/or Medium-Heavy Truck.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Certifications in High Energy Vehicles (HEV)/ Hybrid/Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).

Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

Note: This position is subject to a criminal background check through the Department of Corrections as a condition of employment.

Desired Skills:

  • Requires considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the automotive mechanic and small engine trade.
  • Ability to make daily decisions regarding crew member assignments to maintain safe, efficient, and effective operations in compliance with applicable standards and work plans to maximize productivity of crew.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data to determine the appropriate course of action for maintenance, repair and/or replacement of Department vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to determine most cost-effective method for service, maintenance and repair and makes recommendations to supervisor.
  • Ability to set priorities and schedule maintenance for vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to make daily decisions related to minimum custody AIC performance and progressive discipline as needed.
