What we are looking for:

ODF is looking for two Wildland Fire Supervisors to provide leadership and supervision for fire program operations at the unit or district level. The role coordinates field activities, ensures program objectives are met, and fosters collaboration with cooperators and partner agencies. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise employees engaged in prevention, pre-suppression, and suppression activities.

  • Oversee coordination of field operations to meet fire program goals.

  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and facilities in support of program objectives.

  • Build and maintain cooperative relationships with local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Provide supervision of employees in other program areas as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five (5) years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one (1) year of leading/supervising the work of others;

OR

Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two (2) years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one (1) year of leading/supervising the work of others.

Some positions are required to successfully take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the moderate level, and some positions must obtain the Class B Warden certification within the trial service period.

Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

  • Experience leading a group and the ability to analyze, prioritize, coordinate and direct tasks in the fast paced and stressful wildland fire environment.

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written as well as the ability to communicate well using radio, telephone, email or in-person.

  • Ability to communicate to a wide array of partners and about wildland fire.

  • Willingness and ability to live, work and integrate into small rural communities.

  • Experience providing training, guidance and mentorship to team members.

  • Minimum qualification as a ICT4-t working towards ICT3 qualification.
