This position is Hybrid Remote Work. The duties of this position are performed remotely at district locations, as well as our central office in Salem. In addition, the ability to report to Salem and district locations is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities.

What we are looking for:

As the GIS Specialist, you will provide Department-wide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and cartographic support. This position serves as a member of the GIS Unit and is primarily responsible for designing, developing, displaying, and analyzing GIS data. Duties include:

  • Analyzing, coordinating, creating, and editing spatial data; working with the other members of the GIS Unit on data design and priority issues.
  • Raster Data Acquisition and Processing:
    • Sourcing and processing raster datasets from various sources, such as satellite imagery, aerial photographs, LiDAR, and digital elevation models (DEMs).
    • Performing georeferencing, mosaicking, and image rectification to ensure data accuracy and spatial alignment.
    • Conducting image enhancement and classification techniques
  • GIS analysis.
  • Updating other cartographic products using GIS.
  • This position frequently works with other state and federal agencies, local governments, the private sector, and the public to produce GIS products, perform GIS analysis, and collect and analyze spatial data.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of information systems experience in designing, developing, displaying, and analyzing GIS data.​
OR
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field AND
Two years of information systems experience in designing, developing, displaying, and analyzing GIS data​.
OR
A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency using Esri ArcGIS components, tools, functions and techniques, such as the Esri ArcGIS mapping suite.
  • Proficiency in the design and development of cartographic products using Esri ArcGIS software.
  • Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of map compilation and cartographic principals.
  • Working knowledge of basic techniques of developing and designing GIS products.
  • Working knowledge of GIS database design and management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written format, with persons that have various levels of GIS and computer knowledge.
