We are currently recruiting for an Accounting Technician (Accounts Payable Clerk). This position is headquartered in our Salem office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.
As the Accounting Technician (Accounts Payable Clerk), you will audit and prepare vouchers for payment for the department, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations and policies. In addition, you will review a multitude of invoices of varying complexity for accuracy, completeness, proper authorizations, appropriateness of expenditure and proper account coding. You will also obtain the necessary information or documents from appropriate staff.

What you’ll be doing:
As the Accounts Payable (AP) Clerk, you will
audit and prepare vouchers for payment for ODA, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations and policies.
receive, sort and route incoming mail to appropriate staff for needed action.
review invoices of varying complexity for accuracy, completeness, proper authorizations, appropriateness of expenditure and proper account coding.
prepare voucher worksheets and spreadsheets to allocate charges among multiple program cost centers and agency objects.
review/audit complex travel expense claims (including extended foreign travel) for complete and accurate entries and compliance with policies.
reconcile monthly credit card accounts department wide in the SPOTS system.
pay approved invoices using a state issued SPOTS card.
perform data entry to record vouchers in RSTARS and process invoices in Oregon Buys.

General office environment.
Extensive daily computer use and desk work, which includes repetitious hand movement.
Working with confidential and sensitive information.
Must be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
Must be able to perform job duties accurately and within time constraints.
The person in this role must demonstrate strong abilities in handling confidential information with discretion and possess exceptional prioritization and organizational skills.
The position is eligible for hybrid/remote work. The duties may be performed remotely as well as the office in Salem. The ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities (may be required to work onsite in Salem during training time-frame.
This is what you need to qualify
Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits;
OR
One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or
vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2;
OR
At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
To receive credit for required courses, you may be requested to submit a photocopy of transcripts. Agencies may specify additional qualifications depending on the individual job requirements.
Desired skills
Experience using Statewide Financial Management Application (SFMA)
Familiarity with statewide Travel Rules and SPOTS policies
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Skill in applying specific, well-defined rules, policies and procedures to work performed
Excellent customer service skills for both internal and external customers
Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting, sharing information, and coordinating processes
Demonstrated ability in handling confidential information with discretion
Possess exception prioritization and organizational skills
